Florida Street Residence

A modest San Francisco row house finds new life through the transformation of its unfinished garage level into a layered sequence of domestic spaces—a library, media room, and master suite—designed for an artist and his family. The new lower level unfolds as a telescoping arrangement of spaces, moving from the semi-public toward the deeply private. Each room is offset just enough to create a sense of progression, with framed views and subtle thresholds that allow light, air, and movement to pass fluidly from one zone to the next.

Daylight filters in from new and enlarged openings to the rear garden, transforming what was once a dark, rough space into a quietly luminous retreat. A restrained material palette—white walls, pale concrete floors, and warm oak cabinetry—brings clarity and warmth, supporting a calm, purposeful atmosphere. Carefully integrated storage and built-in furnishings reinforce the flow of the plan while accommodating the practical needs of family life and creative work.
