San Francisco Residence Renovation

Tucked into a quiet enclave of detached homes in San Francisco, this renovation rethinks a traditional house as a series of interwoven volumes, tuned to light, movement, and material restraint. Freed on all sides, the building opens to its context, capturing light and framed views from every direction, a rarity in the city.

A central stair anchors the composition, rising into a double-height volume that threads the public and private realms together. Above, a delicate catwalk bridges the living room and the primary suite, forming a library corridor and quiet reading perch.

The palette is tactile and elemental. Blonde oak, neutral plaster, dark tile, and blackened metal work in quiet contrast. Slatted wood ceilings lend warmth and continuity, while built-ins and hidden transitions lend the space a sense of calm and intention.

This is a home designed to feel both grounded and elevated, open to its surroundings, yet composed with intimacy and precision.
